Time has flown by in the blink of an eye and just like that we have a 1 year old daughter. Can you believe it? It still amazes me everyday how this small human was once inside of me and now she’s developing into an incredible little girl.
Considering Léna was 5 weeks premature, she is learning quickly and almost keeping up with most babies her age at this stage. She is still yet to walk, so far only having taken 2 steps alone, but she is standing for long periods of time by herself, still crawling at the speed of lightening and is determined to be on her feet in the not too distant future.
I have been a stay at home mum for a whole year and it has been wonderful to watch Léna grow and learn everyday. She has her funny moments where she will giggle non stop, give us open mouthed kisses, dance, shaking her hips whilst doing a body pump to her favourite songs and she loves to watch us play with our dog Ben. I swear she is learning to be more like him. As soon as I feed Ben, Léna is there by his side trying to eat his food and pouring his water bowl all over herself. She is very inquisitive and a big thinker.
Of course she has the odd temper tantrum here and there, throwing her food across the room and screaming at me when she doesn’t get her own way, but on the whole she is a very happy baby turning into a wild and free spirit. She loves the outdoors and enjoys playing on the beach and splashing around in the sea. Gavin is so happy he has his very own water baby in the making.
She is still yet to sleep the entire night through which is absolutely exhausting for everyone and I can’t wait for the day we all get a peaceful nights rest, however I wouldn’t change her for the world. We are both absolutely head over heels in love with her.
Last weekend we celebrated her first birthday on our favourite beach with some great friends. Léna was lucky enough to have her granny come visit and bake her her first mermaid birthday cake and it was absolutely delicious. The day was a complete success and I loved to watch her playing so happily with her little friends.
In the next couple of weeks we will be sailing down to Grenada as liveaboard crew for the next two months. I can’t wait to see her turn into a sea gypsy and enjoy life on the ocean, I just hope she doesn’t get seasick!
We have a wonderful adventure to look forward to as a family and I can’t wait for the 3 of us to explore more of the Caribbean as we watch her grow.
